Zimbabwe Achievers Awards International has opened the nominations and revealed the dates and venue for the 3rd edition of ZAA Australia, slated for Saturday 23rd November 2019 in Sydney.

The annual awards ceremony are in their third year running Down Under and will be held in a typically glitzy event that is expected to bring together various Zimbabwean diaspora achievers and guests to the 5-star Intercontinental Hotel Sydney. ZAA Australia Country Director Method Mukundu confirmed the developments and promised another stellar event.

“For us at ZAA Australia, this year marks our third annual Awards Gala Dinner which is a very meaningful milestone to us. The first event was an inaugural one and the second was an affirmation of our relevance, whilst this year’s event will be about growth and endearment,” he said.

“Our purpose remains the same- to showcase and highlight milestones and achievements by Zimbabweans living in the Australasian region. We aim to continue recognising the people who do all the hard work behind the scenes and these awards are just a clap at them.”

Nomination lines have opened for this year’s categories here and will run for 6 weeks before shortlisting and voting starts. Mukundu urged all the Zimbabwean diaspora community and friends to come for the awards ceremony.

“Gather your friends and get a table of 10 together, and enjoy a memorable dining experience with and entertainment whilst networking with high achieving Zimbabweans and various other guests.”

Meanwhile, early bird tickets for the event can be purchased on Eventbrite.

The Zimbabwe Achievers Awards were founded by Conrad Mwanza in 2010 and continue to grow and now have a presence in five countries, with successful events in the UK, South Africa and Canada having been held earlier this year with the USA edition expected to round off the ZAA international run after ZAA Australia.

The much anticipated ZAA 10th Anniversary celebrations will be held on the 12th April 2020 in Zimbabwe at the Victoria Falls as part of the ZimThrive Homecoming initiative.

Farewell To ZAA Hononary Patron Oliver Mtukudzi

The Zimbabwe Achievers Awards mourns the loss of an iconic musician and patron of the organisation.
Dr Oliver Mtukudzi was an industrious member of various charitable organisations over the years and was both instrumental and inspirational in the shaping of our African continent.

His influence to the music industry, together with his fearless and creative spirit both inspired and motivated us. His wisdom and leadership stimulated significant change in key areas vital to the development of music and the  arts industry in Zimbabwe.
As one of Zimbabwe’s most renowned and most recognised voices to emerge from the country onto the international scene, and with  67 albums to his name, he earned a devoted following across Africa and Europe.
He was a humble man and an exceptional role model. We remember and celebrate his work, his life and for being an example of the excellence to which we as a community aspire

Message From The Chairman

ZAA Chairman Conrad Mwanza

Distinguished Friends and Family

It has been quite a year for Zimbabwe Achievers Awards International, but it would not have been possible, if it were not for our partners, patrons and supporters.

We hosted four awards shows in four different countries, which is an in incredible feat, and we are just about to expand to the fifth.

The brand has gone through a transformation since its inception in 2010, beginning in the United Kingdom. As this edition(UK) enters its ninth year, we continue with our pursuit of being a worldwide brand, that not only highlights the successes and achievements of Zimbabweans, internationally but, that engages the wider community, globally.

Our growth has not come easy but what we have begun to understand, is that a journey is not a ‘one day trip’ and the destination is still a long way. More importantly, a community cannot be built by a single person but by a group of people who are willing to go somewhere and have a desire for greatness.

Invest in Africa
As we close the chapter on 2018, it is imperative that we focus on the fundamental issues within our community and drive an agenda that allows us to establish a network that is engaged and committed to shaping a Zimbabwean community that is ready to invest in Africa.

We have a plethora of talent. Brilliant minds, with innovative ideas who deserve a seat at the table, who deserve to be recognised and who deserve to be heard, and Zim Achievers is committed to redefining the playing field and working closely with the wider community in putting Africa on the map.

We need to remind the world that we have a voice and that we have stories to tell that will resonate with this generation and the generations to come.

We are expanding
Zim Achievers, as mentioned earlier, is now present in four countries – the UK, South Africa, the US and Australia. We are currently finalising plans to add Canada to the fold and mid next year we will host the first awards ceremony in the country.

We are still building on the vision of creating multiple platforms where Zimbabwean talent and achievement is consistently highlighted, and where we continue to celebrate,be inspired and motivated by every individual who is raising the flag high, pushing us to reach excellence and live in our purpose.

Countdown to 2019
The new year is fast approaching and we have already got the ball rolling. The UK and South African nomination lines have opened and I’d like to encourage you all to help us uncover the hidden talent in our community. Many of them are our current and future leaders. I believe they will be among those who will rewrite history and will make a difference, not only in their respective sectors but, specifically in Africa.

We have some exciting news for South Africa

Zororo-Phumulani has come on board for ZAA South Africa

We are excited that Zororo Phumulani has signed a three year deal with us and will headline the fifth edition.

Zororo came on board for the fourth edition this year and over the years have become a major player in the community. As our focus is not only recognising the achievements of Zimbabweans but, also driving community progression and engagement, we are happy to be working with a company that understands what we do and why we do it.

Thank you to our stakeholders

We are grateful to,and owe credit to our stakeholders, who have helped us achieve results this year, either through direct engagement, or through the constructive feedback we have received.

We are especially thankful to WorldRemit for being our global partner this year. We appreciate and value your support immensely.

We also extend thanks to all the other major players this year;Steward Bank, Diaspora
Funeral Cash Plan, Propertyend, Ndasenda, eZimtech, Women in Healthcare, Vaka Buildings, Mtimandze Group, Starcover, Vavaki Architects, Richvisions, KTrio, Nurseline,Fastjet, Zimcon, African Medallion Group, Mopane Community Health and Interprime Consulting.

There is still a lot of work to be done and we look forward to maintaining our broad and diverse range of partners and building on delivering all our aims and objectives.

As we get ready to remember and embrace the reason for this season, we do so in thanksgiving, and I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a blessed and prosperous 2019.

Warm regards,

WorldRemit Partners With ZimAchievers Awards US And Australia 2017 Editions

Method Mukundu – ZAA Australia

Global money transfer service WorldRemit has partnered with the Australian and US chapters of the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards (ZAA) for the 2017 award ceremonies to be held in October and November, respectively.

Now in its seventh year, the ZAA has grown to become the biggest platform celebrating the achievements of people of Zimbabwean heritage from across various fields of endeavour. Starting off in London, the awards have spread to other major cities across the globe with significant populations of Zimbabweans, starting with Johannesburg in 2014.

Australia has become the fourth country to host the ZAA after the UK, South Africa and the US. Preparations are at an advanced stage for its inaugural awards gala dinner at the Hilton Hotel in Adelaide on Saturday 28 October. ‘’The stage is set, the red carpet is ready, and tickets are selling out fast, I urge those who intend to attend to secure their tickets as places are limited; said Method Mukundu,, ZAA Australia Committee member.

The US awards, now in their second year, will be held on 11 November at the Marriot Quorum Hotel in Dallas. “We are looking forward to hosting another fantastic ZAA and as usual, we expect the event to sell out. I would urge people to secure their places early to avoid disappoint’’ added Vez Nkomo, ZAA US organising Chair.

Unlike traditional money transfer companies, WorldRemit is a purely digital service that allows individuals to send money to friends and family living abroad, using a computer, smartphone or tablet. The money can be received as a bank deposit, cash pick-up, Mobile Money, or mobile airtime top-up. Seeing the opportunity presented by the new mobile money technology emerging on the Continent, Founder and CEO, Ismail Ahmed, was able to help the diaspora to put money directly into the hands of recipients wherever they are and whenever they need it.

ZAA Chairman Conrad Mwanza welcomed the new partnership with WorldRemit, saying it signalled the company’s commitment to empowering the communities it worked with.

“We are delighted to be working with WorldRemit in fostering greater engagement with the Zimbabwean community around the world. Both ZAA and WorldRemit started in the diaspora and share a commitment to connect national and diaspora communities in beneficial and innovative ways. As we celebrate the achievements of our countrymen and women, we are raising awareness of our collective strength and demonstrating the huge possibilities that are within our reach as Zimbabweans,” Mwanza said.

WorldRemit CMO, Alex O’Shaughnessy said: “We’re proud to be associated with the positive and inspiring work the ZAA is doing in connecting Zimbabweans across the globe. By bringing international remittances online, WorldRemit is making the process quicker, easier and more secure –helping people to focus on making the most of their opportunities, wherever they are.

Like us, the ZAA believe that the mix of experiences and perspectives the diaspora possess offers them unique opportunities to build a better future for themselves and for people around the world. We’re therefore very proud to lend our support to ZAA’s vision.”

ZimAchievers To Honour Women In Media And The Arts

THE Zimbabwe Achievers Awards (ZAA) will this year give special recognition to women in the media and arts industry.

Running under the theme, Celebrating Women in Media and Arts, the awards ceremony will celebrate five outstanding women who have excelled in the areas that include broadcasting, film and literary arts.

According to organisers, Head of Publicity for Columbia Records,Sony Music Entertainment,Taponeswa Mavunga, Forbe’s Farai Gundan, The Walking Dead actress Danai Guriria, Author Petina Gappah and former Dr Who star, Chipo Chung will be honoured at the ceremony on the 7th of May at the Royal Garden hotel in London.

“Over the years we have recognized various individuals and a number of institutions, but this year we wanted to show our support for the extraordinary work that women do that aim to uplift the community in various ways,” said ZAA Chairman, Conrad Mwanza.

“Many women are still undervalued in a number of industries, including business, and we applaud successful businesswomen like Taponeswa, Farai, Danai, Chipo and Petina who are climbing the ranks in their various industries with their passion and energy,” added Mwanza.

The prestigious awards ceremony, which celebrates its sixth year, will provide a reflective context to examine the achievements of women in the field of media, the arts and emerging technologies.

“Women have always been an integral part of crafting culture, and now, with help from the internet, they’re at the forefront of the current “maker” movement around the world.

“From television to holding top positions in a tough industry like music which has over the years been dominated by males, these women have broken barriers and are inspiring the next generation of female Zimbabweans to pursue careers in journalism, literary arts and business,” Mwanza said.

“From the suffragettes of the 20th century, the Bra burning campaigners of the 1970s, to the third wave of feminists trying to crack the so-called corporate glass ceiling, women have been fighting for equal rights for centuries.  While there may still be wider issues, women are continuing to break the mould and are emerging as power-houses not only in the corporate world but in the media industry, as we are now seeing an increase of female directors and producers in the film sector who are influencing major projects and shaping things for the generations of women still to come.”

Mwanza said ZAA salutes and appreciates the efforts all women of Zimbabwean heritage, especially the journalists, media professionals, writers, actresses and producers who are continuing to make immense contributions to the growth and development of the media and arts world in Africa and abroad.

“Incredible women like the five being recognised at ZAA this year are all around us, leading, innovating and mentoring the next generation.

“Every once in a while it is important to shine the spotlight on women and celebrate the inspirational journeys and achievements of some of the brightest talent in the media landscape,” he added.

Over the years, the Zim Achievers has continued to evolve. With the UK awards well established, and with South Africa up and running for the past 3 years, the organisation continues to spread its wings.

With plans for expansion, ZAA will be launching in the United States in the next few weeks and nominations will open shortly after.

Voting for the UK version of this year’s awards has ended and the ZAA’s panel of experts are currently deliberating to come up with the list of winners for the awards ceremony.
